Favorite thing lately is finding an article I wish were in podcast form, saving the text to a .txt file, then having TTS Util use RH Voice to convert the file into an audio reading, and listen to my own little robotic FOSS nanny read me the stories I want to hear in my headphones as I do yardwork.

I've painted the shed and the fence this morning, planted a few veg, and now it's time to build a new wheel for my two-wheeled recumbent.

The freehub in the existing wheel has decided to be "free" more often than it should be. Sometimes it works just fine, and other times when I pedal the pedals just spin without doing anything. I'll probably take the hub apart and see if it's salvagable, but first I'll get the new wheel in use.

It's an old bike, about 27 years old now, but it suits me. It's comfortable, nice to ride, and I'm used to it. This is the fourth time I've rebuilt the rear wheel. The other occasions were twice due to wearing down the rim too much when braking, once when the original hub failed, and once when someone in the UK drove into me on my commute to work and destroyed the wheel (luckily I wasn't hurt on that particular occasion).

I have a fair number of these perfectly good and reasonably inexpensive rims in stock should any of you want one:

Wifey got a DIY guitar for me after I like the one we got for her father. (He’s retired and thought it would be fun for him to tinker on.) well it turned out to be a great little guitar so she got me one too. I might do it up like a Black Beauty… #diy #guitar #fesley

For our fifth anniversary in 2021, I made these keychains for my partner and I (the custom bit is from Outerwonders on Etsy) but the little controller charm instantly broke so we both tucked our respective charms away. I had a new idea to make them into a rear-view mirror charm… I have a pretty solid idea, I’m just trying to track down all the parts. #diy #handmade

Spring is officially *ON* in the Netherlands 🌸 Trees are blossoming, the water birds are showing off to their mates, and toad migration is in full swing. I for one am happy that the sun has returned and life is moving outside again.

Today my friend Swan and I found this big-ass magnolia and decided to try our hand at making magnolia syrup. We used the ‘quick method’, which takes about 15 minutes but involves cooking the flowers (as opposed to the slow method which is simply soaking them in water for 24 hours and then cooking the water with sugar). Right now the syrups are cooling on the counter and we’re very excited to see how they turn out!

Yayy! My first paper circuit kit is now available at:
shop.blinkyparts.com/de/Playfu

This kit contains three of my favorite paper circuit projects: The Spin Art Robot, the Pixel Art Cube and the RGB Touch Cube. This is a perfect kit for kids and parents (age 8+).

Be sure to check it out! @marove only has a first batch of 20 kits!

With the roof complete, I've been starting work on the walls of my greenhouse.

I got a lot done today; almost done painting the siding (cheap white barn/fence paint to seal it against the weather), and screwed a couple pieces of siding up.

No pictures unfortunately, it was a bit dark by the time I finished, so you'll just have to imagine. Maybe I'll take some tomorrow after I get the first few pieces of glass in place.

----

The front is composed of 6 bays, each 4' wide and slightly less than 8' tall. Each bay is framed on the bottom by the sill plate, the sides by 4x4 posts, and the top by a 2x10 fascia board.

Each bay will be filled by an 18" piece of siding then two 36" pieces of glass, with 1/4" silicone caulking joint between each.

I don't remember if I've ever posted this here. A few years ago, I built a teardrop camper. We looked around at dealers, and for something with all the options we wanted, we were looking at $20K.

So I decided to build one myself.
To start with the build photos, scroll to the bottom and move up. The rest are photos from our various adventures with it.

Fixed up the roof supports of the firewood store. The old were sitting on soil and rotting away.

Jacked up the roof beam, cut out the rotten old support and pulled it out. Filled the hole with smashed up concrete debris and drilled a hole through a large chunk, hammered a piece of rebar through and left it sticking out to fit into a hole I drilled into the new log. No more rotting.

Then new supports cut, shaped and installed x3.

📅 On this day in 1877: The first #Easter egg roll was held on the White House lawn. This tradition began after #Congress banned egg rolling on Capitol grounds.

You can create your own eco-friendly eggs with natural dyes. It's kitchen #chemistry: cabbage creates blue eggs, beets make pink ones, and turmeric yields yellow, and, the colors differ on white vs. brown eggs. 🥚🌿
