Tip of the day: Many people use #Markdown documents, citing the ability to make global edits to the formatting. In #DEVONthink, similar global edits in the formatting are possible in rich text documents as well. Here is, how that works. #notetaking #pkm #productivity #tipoftheday https://www.devontechnologies.com/blog/20240521-formatting-rich-text
Trying to decide: Obsidian.md or Logseq — which one is the ultimate tool for knowledge management and note-taking?
Both have their strengths, but I’m curious:
Which do you use and why?
Pros, cons, hidden features — let’s discuss!
Notenik 16.6.0 released yesterday, including quite a few enhancements. See the details at https://notenik.app/kb/version-16.6.0.html. Probably my favorite improvement is addition of a new DatePicked field type. More about this soon!

Realised that I much prefer #Logseq for my fleeting notes, i.e. my #CommonPlaceBook. I tried using #Obsidian for a while, but I much prefer the Logseq bullet point way of doing things.
I'm not giving up on Obsidian, far from it. It'll be for my permanent notes and where I do much of my #writing.
If this means I'll have two files, of exactly the same notes (but in different formats), so be it.
Honestly don't know how people can stand using OneNote. Every time I have to use it for work I feel like I want to pitch my laptop out the window. #pkm

Tip of the day: In our browsers, many tabs tend to accumulate, as most of us are certainly familiar with. Perhaps you would like to preserve some of these tabs, e.g., when you are doing a research? For that, we have a #DEVONthink script available to file tabs from Safari or Google Chrome. #automation #pkm #productivity #tipoftheday https://www.devontechnologies.com/blog/20240924-save-browser-tabs
Anyone is using a #selfhosting app to log work hours and notes? Something that's accesible via a webapp or native ios/android.
I would like to be able to read my calendar and log these from the earliest event to the last event to log hours. Possibly add notes to each events.
Use RSS Copyist to import from blogs, a weather service, Trakt, Goodreads and LastFM. Use Raindrop.io and a plugin for bookmarks, use Pocket and a plugin for articles, Use IFTTT and Hazel for emails
In Obsidian, I can automatically import every website I bookmark, book I read, TV show or movie I watch, song I listen to, article I mark as "read later", posts from my favorite bloggers, emails from certain senders and daily weather reports. #Obsidian #ObsidianMD #PKM
Whenever I concern myself with #PersonalKnowledgeManagement (#PKM) it depresses me. There are so many great methods and ideas out there, but they all create too much overhead and in the end I do nothing.
Je hebt nog tot en met maandag 31 maart om jouw Early Bird kaartje voor de PKM Summit 2026 te kopen. Een betere deal komt er niet.

it's hilarious to go down the rabbit hole of researching "PKM" apps because every blog post is just someone definitively stating why they moved all their notes to X app and then 3 weeks later why they moved back to Y app.
thanks, I'll just stick with my markdown files.

Tip of the day: There are various ways to merge individual work steps into a workflow and execute them automatically. One option is to use the smart rules in #DEVONthink. Now we have created the smart rule Import & OCR, which lets you easily import scans and make them searchable. Here you will find out how to set up and use the rule. #automation #paperless #pkm #productivity #tipoftheday #workflow https://www.devontechnologies.com/blog/20221115-import-and-ocr-smart-rule
During the International Conference, “New Cybernetics” (15th, 16th May), at the University of Applied Sciences Düsseldorf, I shall be demonstrating my work on #qiuy - the recursive-modelling-language Ive been developing for over a decade.
Usually I focus on presenting at FOSS orientated events such as (Fosdem), often limiting expository length and focus. Im looking forward to the extended time to explain concepts, as pertinent non coding aspects.
If you're using #Microsoft #OneNote, you will face disadvantages when you don't switch to #Windows11 soon:
You are forced to "One Note on Windows" which requires a #Microsoft365 account. If you want to keep your previous computer/OS, your synchronization speed gets reduced just to punish your disobedience: https://www.windowslatest.com/2025/03/24/microsoft-will-intentionally-slow-onenote-for-windows-10-so-you-ditch-it-faster/
For anything that requires a certain amount of privacy/security, for anything long-term (avoiding #lockin effects), OneNote was a bad idea in the first place.
People who started with the original OneNote already faced data loss when MS forced them into the then mediocre cloud version in 2018: https://karl-voit.at/2018/04/21/end-of-OneNote/
My recommendation: re-evaluate your requirements and switch to a much better long-term alternative, such as #Emacs #Orgmode & not yet another hip lock-in monster like #Obsidian, #Evernote or other closed source #cloud solutions: https://karl-voit.at/2021/01/18/tool-choices/

I just did an analysis of my Obsidian Vault. I have 10, 153 total files. 6,544 are markdown files and 3,609 are attachments, mostly images downloaded as part of clipped web pages. What about you? #Obsidian #ObsidianMD #PKM
