This is the only DFA1979 record I’ve ever liked. Their second album (which came 10 years after) didn’t do much for me, same everything that followed that.
Which is fine, because as lethargic and uninspiring as I find the latter day albums, that’s how much I LOVE this one.

Sonic medical advise sought: the blue pill or the red pill? From memory, the speed in which ‘Synchronicity..’ kicks off in ‘83 is like a stealth truncheon-blow square on the conk at a hunner (more) miles an hour than studio. The ‘79 affair actually kicks off a bit more simmered down and stays that way with a bit of musical showmanship at the forefront whereas, I’d assumed it would be a rawer and faster affair straight out the blocks. That’s not to say it dawdles, it’s just not the zip I thought it would be. It’s maybe the running order, was maybe hoping for all the ‘punk’ out first, then get reggae

This was essentially the band’s Incesticide; a really great collection of B-Sides & rarities that weren’t on Gish or Siamese Dream, but holds up really well as it’s own album.
It’s got some really great songs on it, including that gorgeous cover of “Landslide”.
My friends and I were obsessed with this, still in Siamese heaven, anticipating Mellon Collie.

I’ve got Oliver Stone’s The Doors all ready to go for tomorrow (my son’s never seen it), but as a primer, I’m spending some time with the REAL Lizard King.
A man who Kilmer captured so accurately, that it was SCARY.
R.I.P. Iceman.

Somebody FINALLY reissued this #psychedelic #pop classic! Original presses of this album go for ABSURD prices, and as much as I love and adore this record, I was never going to pay those kind of prices.

Great sounding reissue, too. And it even contains a bonus track that was originally just a 7” only single.

Jawbone went one and done, but their ONE is fantastic.

I don’t even really remember how or when I found them, but I’m glad I did. Those first 2 albums from the #70s are great.
