I just did an analysis of my Obsidian Vault. I have 10, 153 total files. 6,544 are markdown files and 3,609 are attachments, mostly images downloaded as part of clipped web pages. What about you?

@amerpie isn't the meaning behind those crude numbers that you spend a lot of time at a computer? What else can you infer from that?

@josegustavomartins That's the accumulated notes and writing since 1994, so it depends on what you consider "lots of time". I've done a few other things in the past 31 years. My main comclusion is that by downloading the images in clipped web pages, the file count in my vault goes up, making syncing more difficult.

@amerpie how heavy is it? Syncthing has proven reliable to me so far...

@josegustavomartins I have been experiencing problems in iOS and iPad OS for a couple of weeks, although I suspect the issue is plugins rather than not volume. I use Obsidian Sync so that I can have different settings on different devices, different active plugins etc.

@amerpie @josegustavomartins you can do that with syncthing too, just add the .obsidian folder to the .stignore file so syncthing don't sync the .obsidian folder

(I do that 😀)

@riiku @amerpie why ignore that file? I haven't done it so far, and found no problem.

@josegustavomartins @amerpie If you add the .obsidian folder to Syncthing's .stignore file, it'll only sync your notes, attachments, and other content, without syncing Obsidian's settings. That way, each device keeps its own settings, so when you open Obsidian somewhere else, you won’t overwrite your setup on other devices.

@amerpie, I'm such a slacker, only 811 markdown files and very few attachments.

@laptopllama I had quite the head start. I imported 15 years worth of notes from Evernote. I also do all of my writing in Obsidian, so I'm ceating new files on the regular.

@amerpie 449 items, including images, PDFs, every attachment in there.

@nickanderson I’ve been using Obsidian since November 2023, but my vault is built on documents going back to the 90s and an Evernote account I had for about 16 years. I do all my writing in Obsidian. In 2024 that was about 500k words.
