I stumbled upon Standard Ebooks last year, and they're awesome! If you have a common type of e-reader for books, you can pick up books from them that have gone past their copyright dates.
I read some Voltaire and Herman Melville from them last year and their formatting is fantastic.
In other news, Voltaire was *really spicy* for his time. I read Candide, then learned what the French government was up to at the time, and boy -- he pulled zero punches.
@major Ooh.. SHINY!
@major so many books, such little time to read. :(
@major Also, let me sing their praises for error corrections - you see a problem in the text, send the group an email and it'll often be fixed before the day is out.
@yojimbo That's awesome! (And I totally figured that would be the case)
@major I was frustrated by some of their standards. They required modernized spelling and some other controversial changes that a purist like me dislikes.
But also I prefer their editions over Gutenberg anyway. Much better formatting and consistency.
FeedBooks was great many years ago, but they decided to turn into a for profit bookstore.
