I promised myself I'd finish my current Leuchtturm dot grid notebook, even though I don't like dot grids. 5mm rules are too small.

Does anyone ignore the dots and just write at length with no regard to following the "lines"? I'm trying it, but feels wrong :)

@jbaty Dot grids are the most distracting thing invented since squirrels. Try as I might to ignore them and write free-form, my brain insists on waving flags whenever I write outside the lines. Don’t get me started on dotting an i a fraction off one of the dots!

I recently discovered that you can make an entire page look blank if you centre your writing over the dots. Grids are the way to go, but they must be super light. Most are way too dark.
#Hobonichi knows what they’re doing.

@ellane I work best with 7mm ruled pages, I think.

@jbaty 7mm spaced lines for me too. Moleskine and Leuchtturm hit the spot, when their lines aren't too dark.

@ellane I have two lined Midori MD notebooks ready to go. Those are next. Love them.

@jbaty @ellane Are those Traveler's Notebook ones or just general Midori?

yeah, if you like lines the dot-grid is not for you. I think it's only useful if you generally like grids, but grid lines are overwhelming. I personally like my dot-grid Leughtturm but I can understand why folks might not. It's only a book, put it on the shelf and use something you enjoy.

@eltheanine @jbaty @ellane Or there is also Lamy-Lineatur, which is a squared base, with a bit darker lines every two squares, so its like tall-lined at the same time. I personally don't prefer that, but sometimes I use the idea: Write on every second row of the dot grid and treating the "middle" row as only a guide or just ignoring it.
