I am 70 pages into Gibson's "Neuromancer" and will probably stop there. I know it was seminal and revolutionary at the time, but I'm not enjoying it enough to finish.
I don't like any of the characters. I'm also realizing that in Sci-Fi, I dislike when the author throws too much in-world jargon around like I'm supposed to know it already. I used to think it was clever, but now find it annoying.
My nerd cred just lost another 10%, probably.
@jbaty I recently read neuromancer for the first time (in the past couple of years) and wasn’t too impressed either. I will say that I also read his Jackpot Trilogy (recently adapted to television) and I really enjoyed the 2 books in that series.
If you haven’t read snow crash yet, it’s a good complement to neuromancer that is way more fun to read.
@n0madz I read Snow Crash so long ago that it would be like reading it for the first time, which I think I'll do!
@jbaty yeah I was in the same boat as you, it’d been forever since I read snow crash and I can say it pretty much withstood the test of time. I mean I can always use more Hiro Protagonist in my life but that’s true of any katana wielding, motorcycle riding, pizza delivery person.
