Located within the Orientation and Career Center for the Blind (OCCB) in Portland, the Rehabilitation Instructor will teach students the skills necessary to accomplish their personal and professional goals. Opportunity Awaits, Apply Today! Adaptive Technology Instructor (Rehabilitation Instructor for the Blind) The Adaptive Technology Instructor reports to the Orientation and Career Center Director. The purpose of this position is to provide Oregon Commission for the Blind (OCB) students and with adaptive technology training that will lead to self-sufficiency and employment. This is one of nine Rehabilitation Instructors in the OCCB, all Instructors are based in Portland and teach one or more areas physically in the OCCB. You may be responsible for (but not limited to) the following: Provide one-on-one and group technology training to OCB clients and/or OCB Business partners, as needed. Training may include blindness-related adaptive technologies (including screen reader software, magnification tools, etc.), keyboarding, basic Windows/Office products, Apple products and software, and Smart Phone and Tablet technology. Utilize case management system to document client activity. Provide individual client technology assessments and written recommendations of OCB clients adaptive tech needs, current technology skills, and training needs. Provide job-site technology assessments within employer’s place of business. This also includes formal written recommendations to all involved: employers, counselor, client, and human resources. Provide web-site accessibility assessments and written and/or oral recommendations. Assist with curriculum development for group and individual training goals. What We Are Looking For Minimum Qualifications: A Master's degree in Rehabilitation Teaching for the Blind, Special Education for the Visually Impaired or Orientation and Mobility; OR A Bachelor's degree in Rehabilitation Teaching for the blind or Special Education for the Visually Impaired, and one year of experience; OR A Master's or bachelor’s degree in Education or a Social or Behavioral Science and two years of experience; OR An equivalent combination of training and experience. EXPERIENCE FOR THIS CLASSIFICATION IS DEFINED AS: experience working with people with visual impairments that included at least four of the following: Direct instruction in adaptive travel techniques; Analyzing barriers and developing solutions; Assessment of adaptive skill level; Development of training programs; Case management and documentation; Resource Management (funds and services); Advocacy for persons with visual impairment; Counseling in adjustment to blindness; Using and/or instructing use of adaptive equipment specific to persons with visual impairment; Interagency coordination. Please note that this position is currently under reclassification from a Rehabilitation Instructor for the Blind to a Rehabilitation Instructor for the Blind Specialist (Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist SR26 $4,465.00-$6,851.00.)
