Northern spy 🍏 planted in place of the aged hydrangea. We will train it tall so that it can provide shade over the path and maybe front yard/pond on hot summer days.

Parents had a whole bunch of horse manure 🐎 and a big bag of peat moss so we mixed some of that in for the tree. It didn’t have much of a root ball so we’ll have to make sure it stays nice and anchored. #diy #gardening #apple #pnw #portalberni #vancouverisland

The day is done. Made a reasonable dent in the mountain. Raised the level of about half of the driveway. Tomorrow I will measure the fabric for the car tracks and put down another 2 loads of dirt to bring it to the edge of the tracks.

Then we'll need to wait until a weekday when I am home to go get sand, gravel, and top soil.

Maybe Ill go to the stone shop next week and grab the flagstones for the path. 🤔

Lots to do!

Then we will move to the backyard again and start on plumbing for the poolpond!

Hey all,

So today's plan is/was quite straightforward. Begin filling in the space above my office's "extension" with whatever wood I can find in the garage and then play some LOTRO.

I didn't start today properly until 3pm. My sleep gets even messier when NJ and wifey aren't around. Not as messy as "patchwork shed building", but still.

I distracted myself a lot yesterday on socials so having "physical jobs" day ignoring socials makes sense.

I half-did this #DIY job before my pain got too bad:

Why yes, that bottom plank does stick out more than all the strips below it! I don't have thin enough wood to make it pretty. Function over form at this point - get it blocked up on the outside, then insulated and covered on the inside. Only then consider prettifying it. I have various donated wood lengths, so I'm using those. Plus wood is expensive to buy, so I can't currently afford to buy wood for this. I need to save for chipboard for the inside, but I can only do that through my own income sources. Health and low-income house (those two are basically the same thing, to be honest) mean there's not exactly room for a "home improvements" budget. Except for the "new oil tank" saving, we're hoping the current rusty, ancient one holds out until we can afford the new one. It's somehow doing fine at the moment. Man, this is one heck of digression. Sorry!

Hab heute meine erste Schublade im Leben gebaut. Der Boden ist aus der Rückwand eines #Billy Regals. 😬 Die Schubladenauszüge hatte ich noch herumliegen. 🫣 Die Schublade ist krumm und schief, geht aber auf und zu. 🤷🏼‍♂️
Der Schrank steht auch irgendwie krumm. Deswegen bekomme ich dir Türen nicht besser ausgerichtet. Nun ja. 🤷🏼‍♂️
Jetzt fehlt noch Dichtmaterial, um die Türen abzudichten. Hoffe das klappt. Dann noch Strom und Licht. Dann kann der #Bambulab #A1 einziehen. #holzwerken #diy #3DPrinting

Excited for the additions! Bought an Italian plum to replace the old and dying Italian plum on our neighbour’s side. And bought another Northern Spy 🍏 to plant in the front in place of an aged hydrangea.

This will complete the complement of 3 apple trees in the front yard! Yay! (2 northern spy semi dwarf, 1 blushing delight columnar visible in the previous post beside the little dump truck) and start the fruit tree complement in the back to go with the well established hazelnut tree. I want at least 2 more fruit trees in the back. Possibly four.
