SERRCissä kriittistä pohdintaa itsesurmaamisen tutkimisesta ja ehkäisystä, social-epistemology.com/2025/0

Osa 2 löytyy tuon perästä ja tästä: social-epistemology.com/2025/0

Lähteissä en huomannut SEP-entryä, joka on hyvä johdatus käsitteeseen, plato.stanford.edu/entries/sui. Viime päivinä näkyy maailmalla kohistun monimutkaisia päätöstilanteita ja nopeaa ja hidasta ajattelua tutkineen Daniel Kahnemanin avustetusta itsesurmasta, vaikka se tapahtui liki vuosi sitten.

"I was reflecting on Danny's passing yesterday and thinking about what I learned from the opportunity to interact closely with him. Obviously, his research has influenced many, many people. But here are three personal observations you may appreciate." -- #PeterMcGraw

What I admired most about Danny #Kahneman was neither fame nor popular books, but *useful* #research.

Some of the most famous #cognitiveBiases were revealed by #Tversky & Kahneman's #DARPA-sponsored research. It's summarized in this unclassified 1977 technical report: apps.dtic.mil/sti/citations/AD

I admire scientists who do research useful enough for institutions of high-stakes decision-making to pay for it.

“A reliable way to make people believe in falsehoods is frequent repetition, because familiarity is not easily distinguished from truth. Authoritarian institutions and marketers have always known this fact.”

Remembering Daniel #Kahneman, 1934 - 2024. A legend never dies.

Let his words be a warning.

There will be many stories today about Daniel ("call me Danny") Kahneman, here's mine. We met once, briefly, while sitting in a break room at a conference. It was just the two of us, and I was of course star-struck. As I wrestled with what to say beyond flattery that would bore and/or annoy him, he jumped in and asked me to tell him about my work. So gracious!

"ChatGPT’s approach to solving this brought to mind Daniel Kahneman’s book Thinking, Fast and Slow. To me, it feels like ChatGPT is attempting to apply System 1 thinking (fast, instinctual) to a problem that requires a System 2 approach, and ends up getting exactly the results you’d expect from that: answers that looks vaguely sensible, but are actually way off base."

jameswillia.msChatGPT, rot13, and Daniel KahnemanI thought it would be interesting to see whether ChatGPT could solve some basic ciphers (Caesar, Vignere, etc.). I decided to start at the bottom, with perhaps the easiest possible cipher: rot13. I asked it to decode the rot-13 encoding of “Why did the chicken cross the road”: So the first thing to note here is that ChatGPT is not able to solve the task, even for very small cases.
