Part of the surprising news from China today are new rules about chip makers like Intel and Texas Instruments. Many of which have factories both in the US and China. Complicating matters many US owned chipmakers ship intermediate and raw materials between their factories.

" #Trump legacy is that he’s a wannabe bully trying to rip apart the international system — and the system — for personal power and profit.

His legacy is that he is a wannabe bully who is being undone by the fact that he is an economic moron."

From 2008 South Park episode, "Canada On Strike" (very prescient!)

Stephen Abootman: "Canada deserves more money!"
Economics Minister: "You don't seem to understand how global economics work."

Excerpt from Plot:

"When 'Canada Appreciation Day" in the US is mocked and doesn't bring Canada the respect its' citizens believe it deserves, the leader of the World Canadian Bureau, Stephen Abootman, leads a nationwide strike of Canadians to garner respect and more money, without actually specifying how much they want and for what reason they would need it. They demand, 'some of that Internet money' from other UN nations, who are completely confused, but are denied."

How russian state TV is rejoicing and mocking musk/45 and their economic “buffoonery”:

“What we are observing is an event of historic proportions. If you look at the history of the economy…It was being developed for centuries…The first & most important was a system of trust. With what trump did yesterday, he destroyed trust, trust in the system…80% of economy is based on common sense, but practically everything is built on trust.”

I have a nagging feeling that we’re on the precipice of economic disaster, with only a brief reprieve because Trump decided to delay some tariffs (but still hammering Chinese imports with oppressive rates that US businesses and consumers will have to pay).

Today, indexes seem to be teetering on historic markers—not the worst they’ve been, but trending worse. 10-year T-bond rates are rising, but not at historic highs. US dollar index is slumping, but not at historic lows. The indexes have fallen, but they’re about the same as a year ago. Everything seems to be on edge of balance, ready to topple over.

I’m fearful for the encroaching “slowly, then all at once” moment. I’m not sure what market moves I should make, if any, because I’m a long-term investor and have no idea how to respond to short-term market conditions.

"This entire White House is one giant grift," the senator added. "Donald Trump and his friends are in power in order to use their access to government to make money. It stinks, and we should get to the bottom of it."
