A colleague of mine recently did the #SANS #FOR572 class and mentioned that smbtimeline did run into errors parsing pcaps. I pushed an update which should fix that and add a few new things. Please reach out in case there are more issues. In case you have used smbtimeline in the past, please update.

When I teach @sansforensics #FOR572 (Advanced Network Forensics), we talk about the history of some of the key protocols built on top of TCP/IP. For example, SMTP (email) came about because largely because of the always-on nature of TCP/IP networks.

Most of us today can't imagine the Internet without TCP/IP. I recommend this Wikipedia page for more information on NCP, TCP/IP, and some of the other contenders in the Protocol Wars.
