Can anyone recommend a good Cybersecurity Masters Degree program that's open to Canadians?

There aren't many options where I live, so I'm looking for remote options. To my knowledge there aren't by any Canadian universities. I only know of:

Northeastern University
WGU
SANS

SANS is crazy expensive; not sure about WGU and Northeastern. Any opinions? Or anyone know of any other options?

Attention:

Anyone living in the Southeastern United States, and interested in entering the #cybersecurity field, you have until February 25 to apply for the SANS Southeastern Cyber Workforce Alliance scholarship!

From the site:

"Program seats are open to all career changers and jobseekers not currently working in cybersecurity, but are focused on encouraging participation from:

Members of underrepresented communities, including but not limited to Black, Indigenous, Hispanic, Latino, Asian American, and Pacific Islander individuals

Women

Students or alumni from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs)"

It involves an online application (above), an aptitude test, and some supporting documentation.

Fedi people who have taken SANS courses: If you wanted to learn about Incident Response and your current knowledge level is "self-taught enough to do it, but not ready for FOR508" then would you take SEC504 or FOR500?

SEC504 seems like it would be good, there are some topics I'm familiar with, and an equal amount that I don't know a lot about.

FOR500 is the prerequisite for FOR508, and if I'm honest 95% of my workload is on windows devices.

Hey #infosec folks, I’m looking for feedback as to whether a #SANS Master’s is worth it. I’m in a 10-year tech role with a non-tech conglomerate doing data analytics, automation, and development, which seems to have plateaued. Seeking a potential career pivot. I’d need to sink about 40% of my annual salary into the tuition according to their site. Any thoughts? Much appreciated!

A new year and a better commitment toward achieving 100 days of blogging, consecutively, hopefully.

Over the past few days I set up SecurityOnion in a VLAN dedicated toward security applications. It joins Greenbone for performing credentialed scans via openvas and an all-purpose Kali VM for anything/everything.

While it wasn’t difficult to install SecurityOnion, I did have to do some […]

There were interesting discussions (I listened in) at breakfast on the subject of VPN. I am very surprised that the "professionals" *cough* among the participants don't know something like Rethink, Mullvad etc. or that it is too tedious for them to set up a box. 🤦

But hey, not my problem, I'm not a "professional"! Sent via 🇫🇷

@kramse Indeed, it feels like the #SANS has always been around.
This site already helped me with my thesis on (Snort) IDS like 25 years ago!?

Thank you for sharing.

@shapr : this IPv6 guide might be usefull :-)

A colleague of mine recently did the #SANS #FOR572 class and mentioned that smbtimeline did run into errors parsing pcaps. I pushed an update which should fix that and add a few new things. Please reach out in case there are more issues. In case you have used smbtimeline in the past, please update.

I'm bummed out to see that GIAC stopped doing the Gold certifications in 2022.

Back then, you could train for the certification, pass the test, and then level up by writing a peer-reviewed paper on a topic related to your certification.

It brought a lot of recognition to the people getting the certs and had an added bonus of extending your certificate's duration.
